2019 Game of the Year

Honorable Mentions

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled

One of my favorite games on the first PlayStation with improvements to both the gameplay and the visuals. Its biggest improvement over Mario Kart, the Adventure mode has several tweaks as well, namely the ability to play as any unlocked character and customize your kart and character.

The Outer Worlds

It's the closest thing to a Fallout: New Vegas sequel, which means fun characters, humor, RPG elements and unfortunately rudimentary first person shooting. It's been described as Firefly the game, that’s a fair comparison I just wish the shooting mechanics (in addition to the clunky Skyrim-esque melee) were a little bit tighter.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

I don't particularly like first person shooters, and haven’t really played a CoD or any competitive online shooter since the original Modern Warfare but this is perhaps the best Call of Duty single player campaign combined with absolutely superb graphics (some of the best use of HDR).

Winner

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

After having my ass kicked by numerous Soulsbourne games (especially Nioh), Fallen Order was the perfect amount of difficulty. Still dying more than I would care too the gameplay doesn't require as much patience against most enemies, especially as you power up with more powerful force powers and light saber skills. The Uncharted inspired traversal and puzzles break up the action well too. Perhaps the best part is a great isolated story, especially compared to the mostly disappointing Rise of Skywalker.
